SUV Sukothai Airport

Driving a hire vehicle in Sukothai Airport

The vehicle is insured as well as the driver. This means that anyone can drive the automobile, and the lead driver does not have to be in the vehicle.

Extra drivers are free but need to be named and present to sign paperwork. What this means you can hire a car for a friend who may not have a credit card, as long as you go as lead driver and sign for the car. They can then drive the car, without you in it.

Delivery Service Fee

As Budget nit have a depot at the airport, vehicles are delivered fro next nearest, so extra feee will apply.

Satellite Navigation

GPS is available as an optional extra, but you best book early for peak times, just like high demand vehicles, as they do get soldout. Multi-lingual, but maps are only in English or Thai.

Cross Border

Please note that cars cannot be driven outside of Thailand, and to do so invalidates insurance. Rental vehicles cannot be left at border posts, so look for nearest depot to where you want to get to, and then get a bus or taxi.

Delivery/Collection Fuel Policy

Please note fuel used in delivery/collection service is not replaced.

Zero Excess Damage Waiver

Budget,Hertz and National offer Zero Excess included in their rates, whilst Sixt and Thai Rent have an excess, that can be reduced to zero, by paying extra insurance locally. National also offer rates with an excess, which are cheaper than their zero excess rates.

So, if you take the cheaper excess rate, then you can reduce this to zero by paying for extra insurance on arrival, that starts at THB200/day, depending on vehicle and supplier. If unsure, get anemail quote from us and ask us by email.

Free Extra Drivers

Usually you get three, free extra drivers included in the rental price.

GPS/Sat Nav

This helps make Thailand more of a fly/drive destination. However, like Sat Nav, like cars, do get sold out, so always book early if want a GPS as well.

Child Seats

All companies only cater for children aged 6 months to 3 and a half years old. You can fit your own child or booster seat. Child seats can be fitted in minivans.

Making date changes before, or during, your trip

Many people find they want to extend their stay in Thailand and this is easy to do, even if in the middle of your trip. Just send us an email, via your online account, with the changes needed and we will do the rest.

One ways in Thailand

These are usually free, depot to depot, but sometimes fees may apply depending on car hire supplier, length of rental and start and finish point and times. Budget are usually best for one ways, if rental over 3 days then no charge, followed by Hertz at 5 days needed. Sixt are now charging fees of between THB2,500 and THB10,000 for a one way, regardless of length of rental. Thai Rent are free if over 7 days.

Car delivery to remote Thai towns

Please note the time of day can also affect the price as overtime might have to be paid for. Best times are around midday for no fee. Look for the logo next to car on the rates page, indicating if a delivery, and if fees apply. Get an email quote and we will advise on best options.

Credit card needed

The lead driver will need a credit card in their name. No cash or debit cards allowed.

Not got a credit card?

If you do not have a credit card, then nominate someone else as lead driver, who has a card, as they only have to sign for the car, and does not need be in the vehicle at any time.

Around & About Thailand

At Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, BKK, do not let the snake of people at immigration put you off, as you get through quickly, usually in about twenty minutes, but that can be a lot quicker, as no queues have been known.

Not all budget airlines have moved to Bangkok Don Mueang Airport, DMK, e.g Tiger Airways and Bangkok Airways are still at Suvarnabhumi. The car hire companies that have desks in the terminal are Budget, Hertz, Drive, Thai Rent & Avis. Sixt no longer have a desk at this airport.

Phuket

Most tourists head for Patong Beach where Budget and National are the only suppliers to have depots by the beach, other than at the airport, so the others deliver for a fee. Vehicles can be delivered around the island, e.g Kata Beach, which is a quieter beach resort option than Patong.

Pattaya

If heading for Beach Road, Walking Street, or the quieter Jomtien, then Budget are best if want to leave the car parked when get there. Days on the local islands are well worth it. The Natural Beach Hotel by the sea, is handily placed, cheap and quiet.

Koh Samui

Get a Toyota Vigo, Single or Double Cab to explore the island from either, the depot at Koh Samui Airport, or perhaps later at Chaweng Beach.

The North of Thailand

See the hill tribes of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, but take care when going off road, as insurance can be invalidated, if damage to the underside of the vehicle.

South Thailand, trains & ferries

If planning on going south to, maybe, Trat, Koh Chang, Trang or Koh Samui, then there is a good chance you will want to take your vehicle on a ferry, which is allowed, insured and nothing extra to pay. However, if prefer to either collect or leave your car at a ferry port, then no problem, as for example, Don Sak Pier, is a common location for many customers. Alternatively, if catching a train, we can also arrange for vehicles to be at, say, Hat Yai Train Station.
