Khon Kaen Scenic Drives

Visit Chonnabot and see traditional silk weaving, about 60 Km's south west of Khon Kaen. Also visit the Exhibition hall which is dedicated to Thai silk, where you can buy. Visit the racetrack, which is open Saturdays and Sundays 12:00 - 18:00. Please be aware that gambling is illegal in Thailand but seems okay to do at racetracks.

One of the best drives around Khon Kaen is the route to Hin Chang Si Viewpoint in Nam Phong National Park. It takes just over an hour from the city and offers wide open views of Ubol Ratana Dam, Phu Wiang hills, and the surrounding countryside. The road is smooth and peaceful, ideal for sunrise or sunset trips. Nearby, Mekin Farm serves local food made from organic ingredients and offers a cozy homestay if you want to stay overnight.

Another great drive is along Road 2038, toward Phu Wiang National Park. This route winds through green farmland and low hills, especially lush during the rainy season. The park itself is known for dinosaur fossils and quiet hiking trails. You can also visit the Phu Wiang Dinosaur Museum along the way.

For a more relaxed drive, head to Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake in the city. The road loops around the lake and passes Wat Nong Wang, a nine-story temple with views from the top floor. It's a short but scenic drive, perfect for evening walks and local food.
