About Santander & Airport
This was once the northern coast beach resort for Spanish royalty of yesteryear, with the architecture reflecting this. There are festivals throughout the year that keep people coming here all year round. The airport has the IATA code of LDR, and the seaport is popular with cruise ships, which makes it handy for those wanting to get to Bilbao and Gijon. The name Santander may be more associated with the bank of the same name, but the town has history going back to Roman times, as sitting beneath hills that roll down to the bay of Biscay, made settling here an obvious choice. A lot of the old town was destroyed by fire in the early forties of the last century, but has recovered to be a popular seaside resort for Spanish royalty.
