More on Madeira

If flying in, you will land at Funchal Airport and collect your automobile there, or this can be done later in the town itself. However, if arriving by boat, then the main port of Madeira is 18kms from downtown Funchal. Portuguese traders on route to Africa would stock up on Madeira wine which was then fortified with alcohol by the sailors to survive the trip. However, the subsequent exposure to heat on the voyage developed the wine into the gutsy wine, which we all recognize today as Madeira Wine.

If you like flowers, why not plan your trip around the annual flower fest staged in Funchal in April. Activities for all the family. The population is over two hundred and fifty thousand people, living across all the islands. As is part of Portugal, then the Euro is needed to entertain yourself, family and friends.
