Darwin City and Info
The capital city of the Northern Territory is on the Timor Sea. This part of Australia is also known as the Top End. The Dutch were the first Europeans to land here, over two hundred years before the first British arrived.
Darwin saw the most action of any Australian city, or town, during the Second World War.
About one hundred and fifty thousand people live here, but each year, ten times as many tourists enjoy the city, outback and national parks, which all benefit from the tropical climate, making their winter months the best time to visit. As there are six seasons, and monsoon seasons, always best to check if going for the first time.
