One way car rentals are possible, but a charge applies. Varies on each UK car rental supplier, but usually about GBP50, but is included in price when booking. For example you can collect in Reading and for a small extra fee, you can leave it at Heathrow Airport. Please also note, that the downtown depots are shut for holidays and most on Sundays, so cars get scarce, quickly.

Extras like child seats, drivers and Sat Nav can be requested, but are paid for locally. All the prices have unlimited mileage, breakdown and collision damage waiver/reduction (CDW) included. Insurance to either cover claims is available, or you can pay extra on collection to reduce to either zero, or a lower amount.

About Reading

This Berkshire town is home to the annual Reading Music Festival, which is only bettered in numbers by Glastonbury. Reading FC currently fluctuate between the Premiership and the Championship. If you head west out of London, you can get to reading on either the M4, by train, or on the River Thames. This makes it easier for London Irish fans watch their rugby, since their move from The Avenue in Sunbury. Reading University has long term links with Oxford University.

CDW Excess Reduction & Cover

Like most car hire, there will be CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) which is an excess amount of around GBP500 (can vary on vehicle size), and this will be held against your credit card, for any possible internal, or external, damage to your vehicle.

To reduce the risk of being charged, you have two options:- (1) reduce the amount (usually to zero), by paying extra insurance on arrival, or (2) take out excess insurance cover from GBP5/day, but the excess amount will still be held against your card. Excess insurance dos also offer other benefits, and either an annual or single trip cover is recommended.
