About Walsall

This town is in the West Midlands, in the shadow of it's larger neighbours, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

The name is supposed to mean the valley of the the Welsh speakers. So much for the valleys then as in theory, if you stood on top of Barr Beacon (a hill of not even 800 feet), and had a powerful telescope that could see over the horizon and looked east, the next highest land mass you would see would be in Russia.

The Saddlers, being the nickname of the football team, usually in the lower divisions of the Football League,gives an idea on what the main industry used to be over one hundred years ago.
