About Chesterfield

The football team of this city are known as the Spireites, and play in the Football League One. The nickname comes from the crooked, twisted and leaning, church spire which is clearly seen from the surrounding countryside. This atop the church of Saint Mary and All Saints. How the spire got into this strange situation is open to conjecture, so why not pop along and decide, or come up with your own theory. I think it certainly looks more interesting than just a tower that leans.

Why not have a pizza in the town afterwards and make your own mind up, as you listen to the ten bells ring out their chimes. The city sits between the two Hipper and Rother rivers, in the county of Derbyshire. It dates back to Roman times, and developed into a market town and a coal town, before the pits were closed, but the "Five Pits Trail", is popular with hikers.
