About Brazil

Brazil is such a wonderful place to have a relaxing vacation at. Being the largest country in South America, it has gained popularity not just because of its gorgeous coastline but its beautiful people as well. Get to Brazil through the Rio de Janeiro Airport and start your driving tour from there.

The airport is a 13-mile drive to the city center and is located not far from the Guanabara Bay. Go there and make it the first stop on your itinerary. Once you are at Rio visit Armacao de Buzios. Then take the 112-mile drive over at the Bonito Araruama Freeway and it will lead you to Brazil's sixteen most beautiful beaches.

They are also the favourite spots of Brazilian celebrities. But if you would rather have some peace and quiet during your vacation, the town of Cabo Frio is an 84-mile drive away from the city centre. Here, a calm refuge is waiting for you. It is a three-hour ride from Rio but the reward is a relaxing coastal town with beachfront homes, mountains, and of course, wonderful beaches.

Cool Drives and Events

Starting in Rio de Janeiro, the road southwest toward Santos offers Brazil’s most scenic coastal drive. The route hugs the Atlantic shoreline, weaving between rainforest covered mountains and golden beaches. The terrain shifts from urban sprawl to quiet fishing villages, with views of islands and sparkling rivers along the way. Passing through Paraty, the road dips toward colonial streets and pastel houses. Further west, Ubatuba and Ilhabela offer surf beaches, waterfalls, and rainforest walks.

The drive continues through small towns and beach shacks serving seafood and caipirinhas. The final stretch into Santos flattens out, with port views and a long urban beachfront. Roads are paved and mostly well maintained, though winding sections require attention. Traffic is light outside holidays, and signs are clear. The full drive from Rio to Santos takes about eight hours, but stopping along the way turns it into a full day journey. For drivers, it is Brazil’s coastal masterpiece.

Along this route and across the country, Brazil’s calendar is packed with vibrant events. Carnival erupts in February or March with samba parades and street parties that fill Rio and beyond. In June, Festa Junina brings bonfires, folk dancing, and rural costumes to towns along the coast. April to June sees the Festival Amazonas de Opera in Manaus, where classical music echoes through the Amazon Theatre. October welcomes Oktoberfest in Blumenau, a celebration of German beer, music, and tradition. New Year’s Eve closes the year with Reveillon, as fireworks light up Copacabana and beachgoers dress in white to welcome the year ahead.
