About Da Nang
Only a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride from the airport, with beachside hotels the further way than the city centre. There is a very long beach, with the best spot for a refreshing drink, usually being the bar The Paradise Bar & Cinema on My An Beach, but there are quite a few other beach bars, that do cost a bit more. There are a few hotels with roof top bars.
As so widely spread, there are at least four different areas to stay in, so if staying for a week or more, suggest spend a couple of nights in the 3 main beach areas, then one or two on the river by the main city centre.
Recommend get maps working on your phone, then walk along the beach after checking out, as always a refreshing watering hole along the way if needed. You can also take the back roads, to get a more local feel and see what about.
Try and avoid monsoon season, as it can get very wet and windy on the coast, due to can be afflicted with cyclones.

Around Vietnam
Sitting having a coffee, watching the traffic in Ho Chi Minh is a must, but try not to get a hotel that is open to all the noise, created by the horn honking.
If on a budget, and want to be close to the nightlife, we suggest the Duc Vuong Hotel in District 1, as not only is it good value and near to the action, the roof top bar might just stop you going any further, as it is the essence of boutique chic, greatly helped by a large bottle of local beer only costing under USD2
