All the Cirques - Cirque de Mafate is a populated, untamed, village. So remote is it that there are no roads for your hire car to drive along - you must get close and walk! Cirque de Salazie has over 100 waterfalls. Cirque de Cilaos is another.
Pitons Piton de la Fournaise is the active one. Piton des Neiges is a mountain soaring ten thousand feet above the island. It is so tall that it is usually capped with snow.
