About Puerto Rico

Referred to as Puerto Ricans, they speak both Spanish and English, although the official national language is Spanish. San Juan is the International Airport. Plenty of beaches to choose from and depends what you want to do when get there, but a nod to the San Juan Water Club as well as the Las Casitas Village.

However, if beach life not for you, then try the Cordillera Central Mountains, with the highest point on the island at Cerro Punta at over 4,300 feet. Famous people from here include Ricky Martin, the singer, for one.

Drive Puerto Rico

A solid drive in Puerto Rico starts in San Juan and heads west along Route 2 toward Rincon. Leaving the city, the road passes through suburban areas and then opens up to coastal views and stretches of forest. The first part of the drive moves through towns like Bayamon and Arecibo, with chances to stop at beaches or visit the Arecibo Observatory site. The terrain is mostly flat with occasional hills and wide ocean views.

Continuing west, the road reaches Aguadilla, a town known for its surf spots and relaxed pace. From there, the final stretch leads to Rincon, a small town popular with surfers and travelers looking for quiet beaches. The drive from San Juan to Rincon takes about three hours and covers a mix of urban, rural, and coastal scenery.

Roads are paved and well-marked, though traffic can be heavy near San Juan. Fuel stations are common, and signs are in English and Spanish. For those looking to explore more, the route can extend south toward Cabo Rojo and the lighthouse at the edge of the island. This section is quieter and more remote, with salt flats and open views of the Caribbean Sea.

Puerto Rico is a territory of the USA, but not a state. The capital is San Juan. You have the main islands and then a few smaller ones. The island is a result of volcanic activity but has no volcanoes on it.

Baseball is their main love, with football and basketball also drawing in the crowds. Getting close to four million people live here, and are mainly Roman Catholic.
