A Scenic Drive in Moldova

A good drive in Moldova begins in the capital city of Chisinau and heads north toward the town of Soroca. Leaving Chisinau, the road passes through rolling hills, vineyards, and small villages. The landscape is mostly rural, with fields and patches of forest. The drive offers a look at Moldova’s agricultural heart and traditional village life. Along the way, towns like Orhei provide a chance to stop and explore local markets or visit the Orheiul Vechi archaeological complex, which includes cave monasteries and ruins set in a scenic valley.

Continuing north, the road leads to Soroca, a town on the Dniester River known for its medieval fortress. The Soroca Fortress is well-preserved and sits right by the river, offering views across to Ukraine. The town also has a Roma district with large houses and unique architecture. The drive from Chisinau to Soroca takes about three hours and covers a mix of paved highways and smaller roads.

Road conditions are generally fair, though some stretches may be uneven or under repair. Traffic is light outside urban areas, and fuel stations are available along the route. The drive from Chisinau to Soroca is the most rewarding in Moldova, combining history, rural scenery, and cultural landmarks.

What Sports Are Played - Although wrestling is the official national sport, the most played is football, although rugby union is on the up.
