Best Brunei Drive

The best drive in Brunei begins in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital, and heads south toward the Temburong District. Starting in the city, the route passes landmarks like the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Museum. Crossing the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge, the longest in Southeast Asia, the drive spans over 30 kilometres of sea and mangrove forest. This bridge connects the capital to the more remote Temburong region, which was previously accessible only by boat or through Malaysia. Once in Temburong, the road leads to the Ulu Temburong National Park. This area is covered in dense rainforest and is part of the Heart of Borneo conservation zone. The drive itself ends at the park entrance, but visitors often continue by boat deeper into the forest. The road through Temburong is quiet and surrounded by greenery, offering a contrast to the urban setting of the capital.

Driving in Brunei is straightforward, with well-maintained roads and light traffic. Fuel is inexpensive and signage is clear. The route from Bandar Seri Begawan to Temburong is the most scenic and meaningful drive in the country, combining modern infrastructure with access to untouched nature.

You will need some Brunei Dollars as you travel around the interior or relax on the beaches that lie on the South China Sea. It has Malaysia as their surrounding neighbour. They gained independence from the UK in 1984. Oil and gas account for most of their income, as they are in the top ten worldwide exporters.
