Best Scenic Brno Drives
One of the best scenic drives from Brno is toward the Moravian Karst, especially the route to Punkva Cave and the Macocha Abyss. This drive takes you through forested hills and limestone formations, ending with a cave tour and underground river cruise.
Another beautiful drive heads south to Mikulov, a picturesque town near the Austrian border, known for its castle, vineyards, and views from Holy Hill. The route to Slavkov u Brna offers a mix of history and countryside, with a grand Baroque chateau and peaceful farmland.
For a short nature escape, drive to Vranov u Brna, a pilgrimage site surrounded by forested hills and often called Moravian Switzerland.
Around Brno
You should be aware of a few important rules of the road:- For instance, children under 12 are not permitted to ride in the front seat, and headlights must be on at all times when driving.
If driving on motorways, a windscreen sticker must be purchased in advance, either from car hire company or a petrol station etc.. City driving can be an adventure on it's own, you must pass on the left of all traffic, including tram cars, as this is the side that they disembark passengers.
If your grasp of the Czech language is not perfect, then Sat Nav will be especially helpful. Brno is a good place to start any trip to the Czech Republic. It is the second largest city, after Prague, and just as historic. There are lots of castles to visit as well as magnificent mountain ranges. Carlsbad is the biggest Czech Spa resort and Pilsen is the home of the original Pilsner lager.
Another place well worth the visit is the Moravian wine region, not forgetting that the Czech Republic has a zero tolerance for drink driving.
