Most people who find themselves in Denver come for the winter, but we can assure you that there are a plethora of different activities all throughout the year. They are right, though! Denver during the winter time is full of an abundance of snow sports and other great activities. However, it's worth it in the summer as well. With the gorgeous scenery of mountains just a hop and a skip away from one of the busiest airports in the world, you're in luck even if you're only at Denver Airport for a short while. Denver's airport had taken over 15 years to open due to financing issues, but now it has claimed its place as one of the top airports in the United States. This alone makes the airport serve trips to a variety of different international destinations, as if you ever would want to leave Denver though!
Colorado itself has over 25 nationally recognized historic scenic byways in the state alone. If you want a bunch of cool and unique drives for any season, you've certainly come to the right state. The most popular being a drive that is around 115 miles and through the Rocky Mountains - hence why it is named, 'The Top of the Rockies Drive.' Along the way, you will not only meet and experience people in small towns but also get to see breathtaking views of natural wonders like the Arkansas River. This mega-river can actually be found in over 7 different states!
If you thought there would be only one drive, you've been mistaken. Another popular drive is known as the Rocky Mountain National Park Trail Ridge, which is also the highest road in Colorado. Although much shorter than the Top of the Rockies Drive and being only 47 miles long, it is worth the drive.
One can also take the 110 mile Highway of Legends and get to experience a drive that was once full of volcanoes and see the remnants of a time period that has long since passed. It's easy to get to and can be done along the I-25. It's quite strange going from the mountains to the desert! Colorado has such a dramatic shift of landscapes that make driving through the state quite a treat.
