One way rules for car hire in Florida & Calfornia

If hiring a car, SUV or MPV in Florida, and want to return the car to a different depot within Florida, then there is no additional one way fee to pay. However, returning the car to a depot outside of Florida will incur a one way fee, that ranges from $99 to $500.

The same rule applies in California, where free within California, but say want to hire a car in Los Angeles, and leave the car in Las Vegas, this will incur an extra fee of USD150 + tax (as of 18th October 2008)

Which car hire company to choose for one way?

Although Budget offer the popular Ford Mustang, getting a one way can be a problem. For example, Los Angeles to San Francisco cannot be done for a Mustang with Budget, but there is no problem booking a convertible one way with Alamo or National.

National maximium one way only USD199 + tax

if looking to do a one way over a long distance, then best choice is National, as they have a maximum fee of only USD199, so New York to Seattle is only an extra USD199, whereas the same rental with Alamo would have a fee of USD500
