The airport is a 13-mile drive to the city center and is located not far from the Guanabara Bay. Go there and make it the first stop on your itinerary. Once you’re at Rio visit Armacao de Buzios. Then take the 112-mile drive over at the Bonito Araruama Freeway and it will lead you to Brazil’s 16 most beautiful beaches. They are also the favorite spots of Brazilian celebrities.
But if you would rather have some peace and quiet during your vacation, the town of Cabo Frio is an 84-mile drive away from the city center. Here, a calm refuge is waiting for you. It is a three-hour ride from Rio but the reward is a relaxing coastal town with beachfront homes, mountains, and of course, wonderful beaches.
