Skiing in the USA appeals to more and more Europeans but we recommend booking your Durango SUV, Explorer or Equinox early. This applies to Denver Airport car hire, Salt Lake City and Aspen to name but three ski resorts. America also has eight major ski resorts that are within an easy drive of Salt Lake City.

Mixed groups should try Jackson Hole. It has some awesome skiing, coupled with close proximity to Yellow Stone Park. This makes for a perfect fit for skiers and non-skiers alike.

Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a beautiful city, known for its superb living and surfing conditions, movie stars and beaches. It has many tourist attractions like Walt Disney, Concert Hall and Hollywood, which can be easily visited by in Los Angeles.

Seattle, located in Washington State, is a lovely city with lively night life and lots of character. It has earned a place in the top ten best cities of the world. Then hire a Mustang convertible and drive to San Francisco.

Sat Nav is available, either as an optional extra, or included in the pre-paid rental price. Look for the Sat Nav logo. You can then decide which package, and whether you want to pre-book and pre-pay for Sat Nav, which is GBP35 per week, pre-paid.

What is included depends on where the rental car is hired, and with which car hire company you rent.

All the car rental companies in America have two basic rates. Provided the usual travel insurance is taken out for the USA, no extra insurance cover is needed. However, this will not stop you being offered additional, optional, insurance for your car hire.

Fuel in USA. One rate does not include any fuel, whereas the other includes a free tank of fuel.

Extra Drivers The complicated part of hiring a car in the USA, are the extra drivers.

In California, it is the state law, that all drivers are included in the gold cost, although only Dollar, at the moment, says this in their terms. So, you can book Alamo, National, and insist they include extra drivers in the car rental cost.

Budget include an extra driver on all their gold rates, regardless of where collected.

One ways in the USA. Another quirk, is one way car hire. One ways can either be free, or cost upto USD500+tax. In states like Florida and California, there is no extra way fee to pay. This also applies with some companies between California, Arizona and Nevada (Alamo/National and Dollar).

If you are thinking of, say, driving New York to Los Angeles, then you should consider hiring with National. They have the cheapest, long distance one way fee, of only USD250+tax (subject to change), compared to the others charging USD500+tax.
