Running around Ouarzazate, Morocco
If you've never head of this Moroccan town in the desert some 100 miles south east of Marrakech, then you might be more familiar with the Marathon des Sables (Sahara Marathon). This is the marathon of marathons, where the runners will need more than a Marathon bar to recover, as they will be running about 150 miles in a week! That is the same as running about five and half marathons, not too mention the blazing heat and sand dunes, sand storms...and lots of sand in general!

More Lawrence of Arabia?
If a big fan of the movie Lawrence of Arabia, or just Arabic history in general, then a visit to the famous world heritage site of theKsar of Ait-Ben-Haddou is a must. About twenty miles from Ouarzazate, the Ksar dates back to pre-Saharan times, being a high walled town of earthen homes, that featured in the above movie, amongst others.
So what about Ouarzazate itself.
After flying into the Ouarzazate Airport, and checking into your hotel, then head for the Taourirt kasbah, and haggle to your hearts content.
The Ksar is a traditional pre-Saharan habitat and consists of a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls. Aït-Ben-Haddou has featured in several films, including Lawrence of Arabia.
