The history of Dublin, Eire.
The
city of Dublin was (officially) established in 988AD but evidence exists
that actually dates Dublin back to the second century. Dublin was first
settled by Norman Vikings and was captured by the Danes in the 9th century.
After the English civil war Dublin was taken over by Oliver Cromwell. In the
following centuries Dublin grew in size, population and wealth making it a
popular destination for the Protestant ascendancy. Ireland became
independent in 1922 after the 1916 Rising which resulted in the formation of
the Irish Free State.
